Michelle Donelan, MP, visits Stonar

Michelle Donelan, our local MP, visited Stonar for an informal talk with pupils on all things political.

Michelle introduced herself to Years 9 and 10, and outlined more about the role of an MP, the democratic process and how parliament works. She then turned it over to the pupils and took over 35 minutes of questions from an engaged audience presenting an balanced view, often turning the questions back on the pupils to garner their opinions too.

It was a lively session, with pupils asking some difficult questions and learning a lot about our parliamentary system. As well as asking about why voting was important, life in the House of Commons, and what life was like as an MP, pupils also pressed Michelle on some of the trickier questions of Brexit, the Scottish Referendum and Trump.
