Careers in Art and Photography evening

Two artists and an internationally recognised photographer shared their personal and professional journeys in art and photography with students.

Sarah Ball, a professional Somerset artist shared her inspiration in art from her extensive travels and work in the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and Nepal. Her paintings have been exhibited both locally and in London and she has received many accolades for her art including Best Still Life Artist and Artist of the Year from the Society for All Artists.

Trevor Porter, a professional news photographer, gave a fascinating talk on his long career and experiences of covering high profile national news events including the Hungerford tragedy, national political events and also his work in warzones, including Sierra Leone.

Leonie Watson, a locally based art therapist, talked to pupils about her therapeutic work in drug and alcohol, child and adolescent psychotherapy, together with her work with refugee and asylum seekers, autistic spectrum disorders. Her current work involves working with art in adult mental health.

Celeste in Year 12, said "I really enjoyed the careers evening. It was particularly eye-opening for someone like myself who hopes to pursue art as a career. It was amazing to be able to hear about so many different career options that are available."
