Inspirational STEM Experience for Year 8 & 9

Some of our Year 8 and 9 pupils got Pretty Curious this week with a trip to Bristol for a pop-up STEM experience, run by EDF Energy.

The aim of the Pretty Curious events is to bring the fun and excitement of STEM to girls, encouraging them to get hands on with different tech challenges. An exciting series of challenges and activities tested pupils' problem solving abilities and team working skills.

Our Year 8s worked well together to win a team-based competition to design a new smart gadget using circuitry kits and craft materials. The team went for a teleporting watch, praised by the judges for the originality of the device and the quality of the girls presentation. A Virtual Reality challenge had the girls racing against the clock to solve a problem. Our Year 9 team came out top of the leaderboard, after building a nuclear reactor in 35 seconds, almost a minute faster than their nearest rivals!

An inspirational day, which excited pupils about STEM and encouraged them to stretch themselves.
