Debating team storms semi-final

Stonar's ace debaters are now through to the final of the Rotary Club's Youth Speaks competition after a sterling performance in the semi-finals in Frome.

Genevieve Baller, Reli Harris-Johnstone and Ysobel Andrews have achieved a first for Stonar by making it through to the final; which is to be held at Kings of Wessex School in Cheddar, on the 27 February.

The girls worked very well together as a team and presented some excellent points during their presentation on 'Education'.

This result comes after a convincing win in the heats, where the girls presented a well-researched and witty presentation on the topic of home schooling. The team handled audience questioning very well and was a highlight of their piece. The junior team was awarded second place in this event for their efforts, ensuring their progression to the next round.

The senior team took to the stage the following evening presenting on their topics of 'Mum or Dad?' and 'Home or Away?' The performance delivered many witty one liners and the seniors too stood up to a thorough audience grilling. Izzy Journeaux was awarded Best Speaker and the group were placed second.
