Year 12 at the RUH

Five Year 12 pupils attended a 3 day course at the Royal United Hospital. The course introduced prospective healthcare students to a range of careers in medicine and patient care.

The programme covered many aspects of healthcare, including emergency medicine, paediatric medicine and nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, pathology, radiography, and cardiology. Pupils attended interactive presentations led by consultants, junior doctors, nurses and allied professionals and seminars took place on topics such as medical ethics and management in healthcare. Pupils were also able to view a knee replacement operation via a live link to one of the RUH operating theatres.

Anthony Curtis, Head of Careers, said "this was a fantastic opportunity for our Year 12 pupils to be immersed in a dynamic health and social care work environment. They took an active role in the wide range of activities and discussions focussed on the planning and delivery of 21st century health care at an award winning acute hospital trust."

Lauren Fairley, Year 12, added, "this course was amazing. It has given me a clear understanding of potential jobs and how I could achieve them, whilst being both practical and theoretical."
