Prep's Charity Ironman

Children in Stonar Prep covered an astonishing 500km in their 'Ironman' charity fundraiser for Nepal.

Throughout the afternoon, pupils cycled, swam and ran laps of the field to collectively complete the distance of a full Ironman event.

Pupils smashed the total distance, covering 496km with a total of 262.66 km cycled, 193.8 km ran and 38.72 km swam. As well as achieving one Ironman total in one hour, pupils ran the equivalent of 4.5 times the Ir onman distance, and swam almost 10 times that.

A full Ironman event is a 3.9 km swim, 180 km bike ride and 42.2 km run.

"We were so impressed by the determination and perseverance of the children who threw themselves in to the event and encouraged and supported each other to do the best they could. The totals achieved show just how much effort they all put in and we are very proud of them," said Mark Brain, Head of Prep.

Our thanks go to parents, who turned out to cheer on their children despite the cold and blustery day.

Sponsorship money is currently being collected and we will let you know how much was raised as soon as we have a total figure. Money will go to the The Nestling Trust foundation, a small charity building a school and dormitories for Nepali orphans (www.nestlingtrust.co.uk).
