Global Awareness Week in Prep

Global Awareness Week brought the four corners of the world to the Prep School with pupils engaged in exciting activities together; learning valuable skills and gaining new knowledge.

Highlights from the week included an aboriginal art session. Pupils learned about the Australian aborigines and their ways of life and art, then created their own artworks using aboriginal symbolism to the sound of didgeridoos.

Pupils also learned about how some of the poorest communities in the world live. Working in mixed age groups, Reception through to Year 6 collaborated to create a cardboard city in the Prep hall, after learning about shanty towns. They also created footballs from plastic bags, some of which were tested to destruction in the playground afterwards.

Traditional music and story-telling were explored and a visiting drummer was a great hit with pupils joining in on the drums, pounding out lively African rhythms.

Pupils wrote letters in French and Spanish to pupils in fellow NACE schools and vocabulary was displayed around the school.

The week was rounded off with a great visit to Longleat, to discover more about animals from around the world.

Mark Brain, Head of Prep, said, "With interaction between ages, inspiring assemblies and engaging learning activities throughout the week, Global Awareness Week has been a tremendous success and a pleasure to participate in. My thanks and gratitude go to all of the children for making it such fun and to the wonderful staff team in the prep school, who have made the activities so meaningful and enjoyable."
