You are here: Welcome Boarding Hart

Hart House is a converted farm house and Grade 2 listed building, with a rural feel and views across the surrounding countryside. It is set apart from the main school campus, but not more than 3 minutes walk away. There are around 35 pupils who board here in Years 7 to 11 and all rooms are double rooms. Rooms have all been fully refurbished recently and combine modern comforts with some of the quirks and features of a listed building. The Houseparents are Mr and Mrs Moore who live in the house with their own family, and the Relief Houseparent is Mrs Viv Feltham, supported by two live-in Resident Assistants and several duty tutors. The house is mixed, with girls and boys boarding in separate wings of the house.

There is a large but homely lounge, a fully equipped and refurbished kitchen and a large garden which is particularly valued in the summer term when the boarders play outdoor games, have barbecues or just enjoy spending time outside relaxing. The pupils, depending upon their age, take on different responsibilities within the boarding house to promote pride in it and responsibility for it. They are encouraged to decorate their rooms with pictures and posters to make it feel like their second home.

In 2016, we opened our new boys boarding wing in Hart which has been fully refurbished with new fixtures, furnishings and bathrooms. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Boys have their own common room space and are also be able to socialise with girls in the combined common room area at certain set times.

Hart House however is not just about boarding. The day pupils are just as important a part of the house as the boarders. The tutors and houseparents meet regularly to discuss the progress of each individual and to ensure that everyone is fully supported pastorally and academically. There is a strong house spirit which especially reveals itself in the various house competitions throughout the year. Pupils are encouraged to take part according to their interests and for many of the events, such as the annual house singing, dancing and drama competitions, there is a whole house element. There is a great atmosphere of mutual support and house pride in these events which sums up the essence of what it is to be a member of Hart House.
