Scholarships & Bursaries

Academic scholarships are offered to talented new pupils entering the school in years 7, 9 and 12. There are also awards for pupils who are particularly talented in the following areas: Art, Music, Drama, Sport and Riding.

Sixth Form Scholarships

Two exciting new scholarships are available into the Sixth Form for academic high flyers. These substantial awards will be offered to girls and boys who are expected to achieve a significant number of grades 8-9 (A*) at GCSE. The awards will be conditional on achieving the required grades in Summer 2018 as follows:

Scholarship worth up to 75% of day fees: 8 or more full course GCSEs at grades 8-9 (A*)

Scholarship worth up to 50% of day fees: 5 or more full course GCSEs at grades 8-9 (A*) plus 3 or more at grade 7 (A)

Practical scholarships are also available in Art, Drama, Music, Sport and Riding. Assessment for Sixth Form Scholarships are carried out in November prior to entry for the following September. These are our own papers and do not require any special coaching or preparation by candidates. Reports will be required from the candidate's present school and the Head's reference will play an important part in the selection of scholars. All scholarship candidates will also be interviewed by the Head of Stonar.

Scholarships for Years 7 and 9

Scholarships are awarded to candidates of exceptional ability and are not means tested. Year 9 scholarships are usually awarded only to external candidates but in cases where there is clear evidence of outstanding achievement or potential, current pupils may be invited by the Head to sit scholarship examinations as they progress into Year 9. A riding scholarship takes the form of subsidised or free riding lessons at the school and may also include discounted livery for a horse kept at the school. The majority of other awards are for 5-15% of the applicable day fee. The criteria for scholarships can be found in the downloadable booklet below.

For Year 7 entry in September 2018, Entrance Exams and Scholarship Assessments will be on 13th January 2018. The deadline for scholarship applications for entry in September 2018 is Monday 11th December 2017.

Year 9 entrants should contact the Registrar for admission arrangements.

A Forces Bursary is available to pupils whose parents are current serving members of H.M. Forces.

Means-tested bursaries, to assist with fees are also available from time to time; families will be required to disclose their current financial status. These are reviewable annually.
